Born in Switzerland in 1938, on a European continent prey to the fury of a war that deeply marked him, Roman Signer is known worldwide for his actions during which he uses explosives, but also natural phenomena such as the force of the wind or water, to create « micro-spectacles or non-events »: furtive and nevertheless magical moments of deflagrations, falls or flights that he tries to capture through photography or video and to which he gives an extension in the form of sculptures and installations. The whole is part of a work that the artist describes as a « sculpture of time ».

Né en Suisse en 1938, sur un continent européen en proie aux fureurs d’une guerre qui l’a profondément marqué, Roman Signer est mondialement connu pour ses actions au cours desquelles il utilise des explosifs, mais aussi des phénomènes naturels comme la force du vent ou de l’eau, pour réaliser des « micro-spectacles ou non-événements » : des instants furtifs et néanmoins magiques de déflagrations, de chutes ou d’envols qu’il s’attache à saisir par la photographie ou la vidéo et auxquels il donne un prolongement sous forme de sculptures et d’installations. L’ensemble participe d’une œuvre que l’artiste qualifie de « sculpture du temps ».
