On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, starting at 3 p.m., Nina Childress will be officially installed as a member of the painting section of the Academy of Fine Arts by her colleague Catherine Meurisse, a member of the engraving and drawing section.

At the end of the installation ceremony, which will be held under the dome of the Palais de l’Institut de France, artist Jean-Luc Verna will present her with the academician’s sword he designed for her.

Nina Childress was elected on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, to seat XI of the painting section, previously occupied by Arnaud d’Hauterives (1933-2018).

Jean-Luc Blanc’s paintings and drawings invite you to dive into the profusion of images. He constitutes a “traumatic encyclopaedia” made up of images from books, magazines, postcards… Abandoned images that he compiles and manipulates in order to reinject them into his drawings and paintings. The body, and more particularly the faces, hold his attention. Within a work that is both ghostly and cinematographic: the images look at us.
